Description

Welcome to the Forum of Amun

The purpose of The Forum of Amun is the exchange of useful information and theories about ancient Egypt. Postings generally should be scholarly and include verifiable citations of the hard evidence that supports them. However, alternatives to presently accepted views, when well researched and presented in a verifiable format, will not be denied a fair hearing.

This list is moderated.

However, the stated purpose of The Forum of Amun does not allow for posts that advance such alternative theories as paranormal theories, Atlantis theories, or other forms of pseudohistory*, conspiracy or hyperdiffusionist* theories, alternative chronology, and the like.

Archaeologists, Egyptologists, Historians and lay peoples welcome.

* Terms:

Pseudohistory is marked as a claim of fact for an historical event where the evidence for the key facts is speculative, distorted or unsourced; the claim has a political or religious agenda; where competing explanations for the same facts have been ignored; where the claim relies upon conspiracy theories, and/or when the principle of Occam's razor would recommend a simpler, more prosaic explanation.

Hyperdiffusionism is a theory that proposes that the greatest cultural achievements of one civilization can be traced to another, higher civilization whose ideas were transmitted as results of voyages or other forms of 'diffusion' not recognized by mainstream scholars - mainly because they never happened.

Archaeologists, Egyptologists, Historians and lay peoples welcome.
