As for knowing when your retina detached I know for a fact that mine detached on a Thursday because I felt a sharp pain like I had pulled a muscle in that eye....

No pain is associated with RD since the retina has no pain sensing nerves. What you felt must have been something else, in addition to the retinal detachment....
