Description

"Johannine_Literature" is an on-line forum dedicated to the scholarly discussion of the Fourth Gospel and the Letters of John. Its purpose is to provide a forum for questions and proposals relating to the exegesis of the Johannine Literature, including its relationship with other biblical literature, history and culture, and using any and all modern critical tools and methods. For complete info, please see this group's homepage (http://johannine.org/YGroup_John_Lit.htm). This moderated list is intended primarily for professional scholars, but graduate students, pastors, and others interested in the serious academic study of the Bible are also welcome to participate, as long as they respect the academic focus of the group. Contributors are expected to be familiar with the sources, tools and methods used in the critical study and exegesis of the New Testament. All subscribers agree to abide by the published Protocol for "Johannine_Literature." Anyone interested in an open discussion of the Gospel of John, focusing on its religious dimensions and spiritual applications for people today, is invited to join the eGroup called "Gospel-of-John" (http://johannine.org/YGroup_Gosp_John.htm), instead of this one.

Re: Why did Gospel of John call the Apostle Thomas "Didymos"
... Do the Synoptics actually mention Thomas? My impression was that he appears only in the fourth gospel.... ... Surely Thomas would have been much earlier
